PG Gain
Asphalt Crosslinker:
A colored, crystalline powder which readily dissolves upon heating
into the asphalt. PG Gain
can be added at significantly lower temperatures and requires only 30
minutes of mixing. It does not develop thermo-setting properties, but
rather the material has the ability to surround certain straight-chain
compounds and form crystalline adducts.
Additionally, PG Gain Asphalt crosslinker scavenges free
formaldehyde within the asphalt to develop “near-thermo-setting”
linkages. This basically means that the asphalt no longer flows at the
same temperature but has its melt point raised.
LAM
Powdered SBR:
SBR is somewhat unique in that it can simultaneously improve both the
upper and lower PG values, but since it is only available as a latex, it
has an undesirable water content (SBR latex is ~70% solids).
To overcome this deficiency LAM Powdered SBR was developed
recently and testing has proven its ability to significantly improve the
upper value (70’s are common) without harming the cold temperature
resistance. This powdered SBR
has been modified with a sulphur “cross-linker” such that the rubber in
the SBR is partially vulcanized during asphalt processing.
